It’s been a tough few weeks, yes I said weeks! I started off strong on the plan. Then it all went downhill, it started with a weekend in the city – two days I couldn’t follow the regiment. Bad habits came back so quickly. We skipped lunch, ate dinner after 6 and had drinks of course and tracking food intake was difficult! The good news, I was able to avoid starch food but, the deviation has caused havoc. It’s been difficult to get back on course. The two most tasking parts are eating the heaviest meal at noon and no eating after 5 pm..
I can see how easy it is now to fall of the wagon and then get back on. It was nice to taste the forbidden fruits. However, I did also see the slippery slope. If I would have something sweet (ice cream or chocolate truffle) or high carb that was super tasty (fresh bread with warm butter, or pizza for instance), the rest of the day and the next day would be off course because of the chemical addiction/withdrawal. It took about two weeks to get over the craving, so every time this happens, I have to remember the time it takes me!
In thinking of this, I see that I need to be more vigilant about the following:
- Stock enough food options at home for lunch or dinner
- Organizing ahead of time is important. I was away, so I need extra time to get reorganized. I could have used previous week meal plan, so I wouldn’t be asking myself, “What’s for lunch or dinner?” I don’t want to go back to my old ways, as I have been feeling great!
- I need to remember my goals – lose weight and eat healthier!
- Find my motivation – I was asked why I weigh myself daily. My response is simple, because once I see the pounds going back up after dropping them, I’m more motivated and more likely to keep going. What keeps you motivated?
- Aside from bringing my own food with me, I need to make different choices….that’s just the bottom line. A little taste doesn’t exist in my world!
- Using the LoseIT app helps me see the fat, carb and protein intake. I find this keeps me focused, especially when I exercise and the calories go back!
Although, the way to measure the success of a diet is typically based on weight loss, the struggle of sticking with a LIFESTYLE PLAN LONGTERM is ultimately the hardest hurdle to overcome. I have to remember this – I have a long road, I’ll take the big wins and collect the small ones along the way. I can’t focus on the big setback. I’ll accept the struggle and see where I can improve.
